Zena Lythgo

Meaningful, unhurried goodbyes

Zena works with people in some of life’s most tender and confronting moments, offering calm, thoughtful support when things feel overwhelming or unclear. She understands that death often arrives alongside fear, shock and disorientation, and that grief can feel deeply isolating. With patience and care, Zena helps people slow down, make sense of what is happening, and begin to find meaning in the midst of loss. She believes that every death offers an opportunity to reflect on a life lived, and that being invited into this space is a profound honour.

Zena supports families and individuals in different ways, depending on where they are in the process. This might mean being there after a death, helping people understand what comes next, supporting time at home with a loved one, or gently guiding choices around funerals or celebrations of life. At other times, it involves sitting with someone before death, listening to how they want to be remembered, and helping them reflect on their life and values. Her approach is unhurried and grounded, creating space for conversation, memory-sharing and, often, moments of warmth and even laughter alongside the grief.

Trained with Zenith Virago and the Natural Death Care Centre, Zena brings both professional knowledge and lived experience of death and grief to her work. She is open, reflective, and deeply respectful of the fact that there is no single right way to approach death. For Zena, acknowledging death brings clarity and perspective to life itself, helping people be more present and intentional. Whether you are grieving, planning ahead, or simply wanting to explore what a meaningful goodbye could look like, Zena offers steady guidance, kindness and care as you find the approach that feels right for you.

The Humanist Society is part of a national and international movement which helps people lead ethical and fulfilled lives free from religion.

We meet and work on stolen lands of the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people and respect their sovereignty of those lands which was never ceded. We pay respect to Elders, past and present, and acknowledge the pivotal role that Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within the Australian community.
